“We will always lock arms. Because we understand that our struggles might be a little different here or there. But it's basically the same struggle. It's different manifestations of racism we all fight and we fight together.”

“I have the honor of being the first South Asian on the Los Angeles City Council. Growing up, I never saw people who looked like me in elected positions. Being able to break that barrier in the city I love is a privilege.
I’m proud to support and be a part of AAPI LA — which uplifts the voices of Asian American and Pacific Islanders in this city, supports and fosters our ambition and endeavors, and allows us to join together and celebrate our strength, our joy, and our vibrancy as one AAPI community.”

“The AAPI Community is incredibly resilient and joyful, and this month is a celebration of that. I am proud to be the first Filipina elected to the L.A. City Council, and I don’t take my responsibility to advocate for my community lightly.
Let’s continue to push against barriers and pave a path for future generations. Together we stand stronger and are more capable of creating lasting positive change.”
