“I met the owners & learned how they were able to pivot & embrace new ways of doing business as the city emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic. These businesses, like many others, embody the spirit of resiliency and determination that Angelenos possess.
In honor of Small Business Week and AAPI Heritage Month, I invite you to support your favorite local spot.”

“Small businesses in Los Angeles — so many of which are AAPI-owned — are the lifeblood of our local economy. They help define each neighborhood’s unique character, and knit our diverse communities together.
The past two years have been especially difficult for the small businesses in our City, and my office has made providing support, through both legislation and proactive outreach, a top priority. It is essential that we continue this work — so we can retain the vibrancy and value our small AAPI businesses bring to the City we call home.”

“We’ve been inspired by the example of so many small businesses who have continued to support their community. We want to go above and beyond trying to ensure the survival of AAPI-owned businesses. Thanks to both House Roots Coffee and Earl’s Donuts for building the relationship with the community and giving back to the community.”

“I would like to recognize Yamaguchi Bonsai Nursery for their work bringing the beauty of nature to the community of West LA Sawtelle Japantown. The nursery was founded in 1949 by George Yamaguchi, and is now run by his daughter, Marianne Yamaguchi. She has continued the legacy of her father by celebrating the unique history of Sawtelle Japantown through Japanese horticulture and sharing her vast knowledge with the community. Yamaguchi Bonsai Nursery has created a beautiful environment for the sharing of culture and history, and it has truly earned its place as a cornerstone in West LA Sawtelle Japantown. I commend Yamaguchi Bonsai Nursery for its dedication to sharing Japanese culture through nature.”
